The Reality of Wine Production – The Corporate Responsibility of State-Owned Companies

Time: Wednesday 6.6.2012, 11.30-13
Place: Vanha ylioppilastalo, Galleria

Poor working conditions, low wages and discrimination against women and seasonal workers are huge problems in the wine industry. Both Finland and Sweden have a state monopoly over alcohol retail, which gives Alko and Systembolaget considerable power to affect the lives of producers. In Sweden, action has been taken to demand more ethical wines. What goes on in the vineyards? Do state-owned companies have a special responsibility to guarantee ethical chains of production? Is the same kind of campaign possible in Finland? Join us in a discussion around these issues and meet Swedish activists at the seminar organized by Kalevi Sorsa Foundation and Eettisen kaupan puolesta ry.
